P-47D-5-RE 42-8413 [OS:P] "Ma Fran" was assigned to the 355FG/357FS at Steeple Morden, UK. On 16 Nov-43 the aircraft, piloted by 1LT Donald B. McNally, was despatched along with P-47D 42-8408, piloted by 1LT Lawrence D. McGraw, on a meteorological sortie to St. Omer and Boulogne, France and return. The aircraft sustained a mid-air collision over the beach near Wissant, France and both aircraft crashed and both pilots were killed. MACRs 1289 & 1290.
