Assigned to the 93rd Bomb Group, B-24H #41-23740 had been flown from the United States and delivered to the 2nd Bomb Wing on 2 December 1942. On 25 February 1943, the Liberator, piloted by 93rd BG pilot Jacob B. Epting, was being ferried from Port Lyautey, French Morocco to England. Short of fuel, the pilot had to crash-land it near Tiztoutine, Spanish Morocco. All 15 men on board, crew and passengers, safe. Arrested and brought to Spain, where they were detained, the last ones getting back to England in June 1943. Those on board were Pilot 1st Lt Jacob B. Epting, Co-Pilot 2nd Lt Homer L. Moran, Bombardier 2nd Lt Albert C. Naum, Navigator Sgt Edward E. Weir, Radio Operator Sgt Dell W. Kettering, Engineer Sgt Alexander S. Halbridge, Gunner/Assistant Radio Operator Sgt James W. Holliday, Gunner Sgt Richard G. Ryan, Sgt Ples W. Norwood, 93rd BG ground crew member George F. Metcalf and passengers 2nd Lt Harold K. Kendall, Sgt Lyman L. Dulin, Sgt George T. McLaughlin and Sgt Ben Kuroki. There is no Missing Air Crew Report as the aircraft was not on an operational mission. Aircraft was flown to Spain by Spanish Air Force.
