Object Number - FRE 1307 - Colonel George Snyder of the 387th Bomb Group and his crew, with their B-26 Marauder nicknamed "Wuneach". Handwritten caption on reverse: 'George...

B-26B-15-MA 41-31666 was assigned to the 387BG/558BS at Chipping Ongar, UK. On 27-Sep-43 the Bomb Group was despatched on a mission to bomb the German airfield at Beauvaus/Tille, France. The aircraft was hit by flak over the target and later on attacked by fighters on return just before the English coast. The Engineer, SSGT William Megonegal, baled out of the aircraft shortly after it was hit by AA fire and was captured as a POW. The other 5 crewmen stayed with the aircraft and made a wheels-up crashlanding at Chipping Ongar. No MACR issued.
