This aircraft was originally assigned to 133 Squadron RAF but was transferred to the 8th Air Force, 4th Fighter Group, 336th Fighter Squadron on 22-August-1942. This aircraft was flown by Flight Lieutenant Edward G. Brettell RAF 133 Squadron ref: http://www.hatfield-herts.co.uk/aviation/brettell.html in escort of Americn bombers attacking the German airfield of Porjeau at Morlaix, France. The aircraft was shot down and crashed out of control near Morlaix, France Lt. Brettell was unable to abandon the aircraft, sustained multiple fractures and was captured as a POW. He was later executed by the Germans for participating in the "Great Escape" at Stalag Luft 3.
