Hit by Allied anti-aircraft fire. Pilot, Flight Officer Daniel L Richards, was Killed in Action.
Witness statement given by 1/Lt. Gus W Allen:
'F/O Richards was flying my wing in the direction of Carmolain at approximately 1030 26 June 1944 when we were fired upon. According to Ground Observers we were hit immediately. F/O Richards turned right and tried to bail out but his chute did not open.'
