Assigned to 599BS, 397BG, 9AF USAAF. Failed to Return (FTR) Pointoise R/R bridge mission. Hit by flak near Dreux, wounding the pilot, taking out starboard engine and damaging the port engine. Losing altitude, left behind by formation, co-pilot attempted to nurse A/C back to lines. Lost control around 2000 ft when remaining engine cut out, crash landed in orchard near Dreux. 3 x POW, 3 x KIA. 9-Aug-44. MACR 7788.
