Proud granddaughter of Colonel Robert H. Stropp, Sr., "Bob", who survived his 25th and last mission over Berlin on Feb 3, 1945, coincidentally my birthday, after bailing from the plane hit by German flak along with Major Robert Rosenthal and Captain John Ernst. Fortunately, he landed in Russian lines, and was "roughed up" a bit until he could convince the Russians that he was "Amerikanski". He was able to convalesce in a Russian hospital after breaking his hip while parachuting to safety, and then returned by to America. On Jan 22, 1998, age 80, he passed away and was then buried at Arlington National Cemetery. My family and I are currently reviewing much of the information collected over the course of his time in the airforce during WWII.
