Richard Oliver Smith, "Dick" was the oldest son of Oscar D. and Frances E. Smith of Covington, PA. He and all crew members were KIA on return from a bombing mission over Germany on July 19, 1944 when his B-17 was hit by flak and left the formation. He was in the 390th Bombardment Group, 568 Squadron, Crew No. 16. (Note: KIA on either Mission 153 or 482 - have seen both and don't know which one; have also seen Darmschtadt listed as "mission" alternately with Schweinfurt-would like to know which is the one).
