Bio

William Wade Hately, born April 1946 in Texas. I live in Denver, Colorado USA and am a retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel (1969-1995) with tours of combat duty in Viet Nam and Desert Storm. I am married with 4 children. My father was William Franklin Hately (1921-2002) who was a co-pilot during WWII with the 571st Squadron, 390th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force, flying 26.5 missions out of Framlingham, England. Shot down on 8 May 1944 over Germany and was a POW in Stalag Luft 3 until being forced marched from the prison in January 1945, eventually being liberated near Mooseburg, Germany on April 29, 1945. His father, my grandfather - Pvt. Morgan Dean Hately (1894-1985) - was an infantryman during WWI, serving in the 77th Infantry Division during the 1918 Argonne Forest campaign. He was severely wounded on October 14, 1918 near St. Juvin, France losing his left arm and hearing in his left ear from a close artillery round, subsequently being gassed by the Germans before he could be removed from the field of battle.
