Bruce Bolinger, of Grass Valley, California, retired in 1998 after serving 18 years as Nevada County Clerk-Recorder. Prior to that he was the district manager of the 1980 Decennial Census for eight counties in Northern California, consultant to the California Legislature on revision of the California Elections Code, legislative assistant to a Member of Congress, and taught political science at two state universities and three community colleges. He extensively researched the evasion of 2nd Lt. Tom Applewhite and the Smit-van der Heijden Line that helped Applewhite to get to Brussels.
