Detailed History

Farabol is a small rural place in the region Blekinge, in southern Sweden. B-17, 42-31192 (YB-R), 351st BG, 508th BS with crew from 509th BS, crashed here during force landing, October 7th 1944 after been hit by flak over Politz, north Germany. After being hit, with only one engine working, they tried to reach Sweden crossing the Baltic Sea. 5 were killed on crash site or in ambulance, 2 died in hospital, 2 survived and were interned, later transferred back to England. During force landing, the pilot tried to avoid potato picking workers in the intended field and crashed in the woods nearby. There is a memorial at the site, quite hard to find, in a small dirt road.
