Object Number - UPL 38803 - Ira Trevor Shepard, Navigator, 96th Bomb Group - ready for mission

Ira was from Frazeysburg, Ohio. He was born in 1917 and joined the Army Air Force on 12 Dec 1942. He wanted to fly fighters, but when found to be color blind, he trained instead as a navigator on the B17 bomber. He arrived in England on 27th February 1945 and left on 9th April 1947. As he was trained as a radar observer bombardier, he is likely to have been assigned an H2X radar equipped bomber, which facilitated bombing raids in conditions of low visibility. He was involved in numerous bombing missions over Germany and his Certificate of Service lists the following battles and campaigns: Rhineland, Central Europe and Air Combat.

Awards: AM, ACM, EAME with three campaign stars, WW II Victory Medal
