Hobart H. Steely, Navigator, was assigned to the 384th Bomb Group, 547th Bomb Squadron on AAF Station 106 Special Orders #160 dated 5 December 1943, James B. Tayor Crew. 28 x combat missions. He did not fly any combat missions with the 384th Bomb Group.
Although clearly assigned to the 384th BG on 5 December 1943, this crewmember began flying combat missions with the 303rd BG on-or-about 14 December, and never appeared on any 384th BG combat rosters. The pilot's son reports: 'My Dad and his crew had arrived at the 384th from the CCRC, and were promptly sent to the 303rd. This occurred after the CCRC had received an urgent call from Major Mel Schulstad for replacement pilots/crews for the 303rd following heavy losses during missions.'
