Military"Iowans of the Mighty Eighth", Chapter 26 "Biographies", by Charles D Taylor.
Member of Ashley crew. Drafted in February 1943 he trained as a gunner/mechanic and was assigned to a crew in March 1944. They picked up a B-24 and flew to England via the southern route. He flew on 30 combat missions, their plane never being seriously damaged and no crew member badly injured. He returned to the USA aboard the 'Queen Mary' and served out his time as an instructor at Keesler Field Mississippi.
