Lt. Grover C. Deen joined the 369th Fighter Squadron on 26 May 1944. On 18 September 1944, while flying his 43rd mission with the 359th Fighter Group, his Mustang went down for unknown reasons and the Lieutenant was captured. A POW at Stalag 1 in Barth-Vogelsang, he was liberated on 30 April 1945 and returned home to Austin, TX.



18 September 1944: The airborne assault on Eindhove, Nijmegen and Arnhom continued on the 18th. It was a long (6:07) patrol under MEW control, and there were three scattered combats. A flight was bounced by 35 FW-190s in one of these, and in this fight Grover C. Deen and Edwin Sjoblad were last seen. There were three claims - by Crenshaw, Lt. James Parsons, and another shared by John E. Keur and Thomas Bur.

Awards: DFC, BSM, POW, WWII Victory, EAME.



Post war: Remained in USAF serving in the Korean and Vietnamese conflicts.
