George W Hartz
Military"Iowans of the Mighty Eighth", Chapter 22 "Biographies", by Charles D Taylor.
He enlisted in October 1942, trained as a gunner and flew on 33 combat missions, once being wounded in the leg by a shell. Post VE Day he was deployed to New Guinea where his duties involved air/sea rescue, recovering wounded and supplying the troops. Discharged in September 1945 he went back to farming until 1976 when he went into the insurance business.
