George Ryan Weinbrenner

Major George Weinbrenner was Observer on board B-17F #42-5788 "AOG, Not In Stock", shot down after being attacked by five ME109s and crashed in Duffel, 8km NE of Mechelen, Belgium, on a mission to Büden, Germany on 22 February 1944. Evaded (EVD). Was back in England on 15 September 1944.

Belgium and France 22 February 1944 - 15 September 1944 landed in paracgute in Sint-Katelijne-Waver, near Duffel, Belgium. Helped, clothed, fed, sheltered and transported by Belgian and French citizens and members of the Résistance. He was guided to Brussels, Tournai, crossed into France and passed through Lille, Paris, Dijon, Besançon, Pontarlier. Joined the Maquis in Southern France (in Brionde and other places) until meeting US troops. Left France by air to Corsica, Naples, Algiers and Casablanca, arriving in England on 15 September 1944.
