Shot down 28 July 1943 in B-17F 42-3345 'Paper Doll'. On the mission to Oschersleben GR the bomber was attacked by a squad of FW's, the gunners shot down several fighters. Lt Deshotels had to ditched into the North Sea after loosing three engines. 'Paper Doll' floated for 26 minutes and all the crew were able to get into dinghies. A German surface ship picked them up and made them Prisoners of War (POW's).
