11 April 1944 Death: Apr. 11, 1944, France Son of Frank Ross and Edith Francis Ross. Frank, who resided at 222 South Main Street, Smyrna, Delaware, served as a Major in the 356th Fighter Squadron, 9th Air Force, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He enlisted in the Army on August 5, 1940, prior to the war, in Wilmington, Delaware. He was noted as being employed as a Baker and also as Single, without dependents. He was "Killed In Action" while leading a mission over France during the war. He had served in the Air Corps for five years and was decorated with the Distinquished Flying Cross, Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, and a Purple Heart.
