His unit was the 489th Bomb Group, 844th Bomb Squadron. He was the Tail Gunner aboard B-24 tail 42-94913, nicknamed “Pregnant Peggy,” when it was caught in the prop wash of another bomber and downed over Edenkoben, Germany, on October 19, 1944.

He is buried at the US Military Cemetery at St. Avold, France.
