Our records show mission numbers 53, 55, 56, 59, 64, 74, 83, 84, 86, 87, 88, 90, 93, 94, 95, 97, 98, 101, 102, 104, 108, 111, 115, 116, 117, 119, 124, 125, 127, 128, 129, 130, 133, 134, 135, 136, 144, and 145. Lt Downs may have flown additional missions, but these are the ones we have in our records.'

Planned for RAF use, Kimbolton airfield was built by W and C French Ltd. in 1941. The airfield was increased in size to accommodate a full US heavy Bomb Group, and the first such unit to us it was the 91st Bomb Group, who arrived in September 1942....
