Stratton Mayfield Appleman
MilitaryStratton entered the service as a private (service # 18062300) on 26 June 1942 from Biggs Field, El Paso, Texas. He was single, without dependents, had four years of college and his civilian occupation was listed as "Chiropractors".
On the Mission DETROIT orders, he was listed as the Pilot of CG-4A #42-79200 being towed by C-47 #42-100660, Chalk # 19. The MACR #13319 lists him as a POW; his Co-pilot’s statement was that they landed successfully; Lt Appleman went off to reconnoiter and was not seen again. He was liberated at the end of the war. He remained in the Service and retired from active duty as a Colonel in 1964.
Stratton was a member of the 437th Troop Carrier Group Association from 1976 until his death.
