Both B-17s 42-5820 and 42-29905 were flown by a 526BS crew captained by Lt. Alexander R. Brown. Unfortunately Alexander Brown was not available for the mission of 12 August 1943 for unknown reasons. His place was taken by Lt. Kurt W. Freund who belonged to a different Squadron, namely the 524BS.

This was first and last time Lt. Freund flew operationally either with the 526BS or the 379BG as far as I can tell.
