Wade H Butler Jr

Wade H Butler was co-pilot of a CG-4A Haig Glider, transporting airborne troops across the Rhine River on 24 March 1945.



His glider landed safely and Butler began attacking the enemy ground forces alongside the American airborne troops. Butler was killed in action by an enemy mortar shell that exploded nearby. His pilot James G Hoyt was badly injured and evacuated to a field hospital.
