James Claude Haverty
MilitaryLt. James Haverty has been reported as the pilot who flew the B-24D, 41-11620, named Edna Elizabeth, on the low level Ploesti mission, assigned to the 98th Bomb Group's Flight 5. However, no historical records on the 98th Bomb Group count any pilot, crewmen on the aircraft, 41-11620, Edna Elizabeth, or the airplane, itself, as having participated in Operation Tidal Wave, to Ploesti, Romania, as the plane started the mission, but turned back to Benghazi early, soon after leaving the African coast on the way to cross the Mediterranean. 1 Aug 43.
