Shot down on 6 September 1943 in B-17 #42-30010. Evaded (EVD). Helped by French citizens and members of the Résistance, he was among the 19 evaders (2 from the RAF, 11 from the USAAF and 6 from the Royal Navy) who boarded a Royal Navy Motor Gun Boat (MGB-318) from Brittany, France on 26 December 1943, arriving the following day in England.
