Barth, Germany Stalag Luft 1 Barth-Vogelsang Prussia 54-12, 20 December 1943 Shot down 20 December 1943 in B-24 #4128589. Prisoner of War (POW). The crash happened on 20 December 1943. It is the aircraft with the serial number B-24 H 41-28589, SQ 566, OLD IRONSIDES with the aim of bombarding Bremen. On the return flight the aircraft was attacked by German Flak of the location Riepe and Kampfflugzeuge and suffered thus serious damage, which the machine had to be given up. The entire crew survived the crash in 1943. They could save themselves with the parachute and landed in the vicinity of Timmel, where they were also arrested.Seargent Cromer injured in the jump off and was taken to the naval hospital to Sanderbusch.
