Shot down 4 February 1943 in B-17F 41-24589 'Texas Bronco' while serving as Tail Gunner Prisoner of War (POW). Aircraft was damaged by flak on a mission to bomb the port area of Emden, Germany then attacked by German fighters. ME 110s and JU88s. The pilots crash landed on the beach at Terschelling, Holland and destroyed the plane.

Lincoln Park, Michigan 4 February 1943 - 22 September 1944 Held at Stalag 7A, Moosburg, Bavaria. Officially Returned to Military Control (RMC) 22-Sep-44. This RMC date indicates that he was probably too wounded for the Germans to consider keeping him and was paroled and repatriated to the Allies.
