William Ling
MilitaryIn the photo above from the 7th October 1944 the plane is under attack by German fighters and the tail gunner [William Ling] is returning fire. Note the damage in the right wing and wisps of fire starting to show.

William Ling served with the 95th BG as a tail gunner. The picture of 42-102560 taken on the 7th of October showing severe damage to the right wing and a Tail gunner shooting defiantly at attackers has been researched as to date by by Jing Zhou from https://b17flyingfortress.de/en which shows that the man pulling the triggers on those twin .50s was William Ling. The aircraft came home.
