Shot down 17 August 1943 in B-17 #42-29559 'Stupntakit', Prisoner of War (POW). MACR 278. 3 crew members were killed; 4, including Gaynor were seriously wounded and made prisoner (POW); 3 others managed to evade capture, but one of them was caught just before reaching Spain.
