On 7-Nov-43 while piloting P-47D 42-7975, 56FG/63FS his aircraft sustained an engine failure over Holland on a mission to escort B-17 bombers attacking at Duren, Germany. He was able to bale out and evade capture, returning to England on 25-Jan-44. The aircraft crashed near Bruegel, Holland. 1EVD MACR 1166; Escape & Evasion Reoprt 340.
