Richard H Daniels

Military

Lt. Richard H. Daniels, from Ticonderoga, NY, enlisted on 8 October 1942 and joined the 368th Fighter Squadron at East Wretham on 25 October 1944. On his 28th combat mission with the 359th Fighter Group he was KIA near Bauxviller. The Lieutenant was buried in the Epinal American Cemetery in France.

29 January 1945: The Group flies an escort to Seigen, leaving the bombers in the Giessen area. The pilots then strafe, claiming 3-1 locos, 0-87 rail cars, 6-2 vehicles, and 0-3 barges. Lt. Daniels inadvertently strafes a U.S. position near Ingwiller. He makes three passes in spite of warnings from the troops, then they open fire and he crashes near Bauxviller.

Assigned to 368FS, 359FG, 8AF USAAF. Killed in Action (KIA) due to friendly fire in P-51D 44-14769(?). 29-Jan-45.
