After being hit by flak on a mission to St Jean d'Angely airfield, FR on 27 Mar 1944, Lt Fix successfully ditched B-17 42-31363 in the Bay of Biscay, saving all crewmembers. A German seaplane picked up aircrew. Lt Fix was a Prisoner of War (POW) in Stalag Luft 1, Barth Germany until 13 May 1945.
