Morris Guttu joned the National Guard in April 1940 being sent initially to Field Artillery School. He later transferred to Aviation Cadets and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant 13th February 1943. He collected a brand new B-17 at Grand Island and flew it across the Atlantic arriving at Bassingbourn to join the 91st BG August 5th 1943. He flew seven missions before being shot down over Germany and being taken prisoner with three other members of his crew.
