Lt. Edward L. Clark of West Allenhurst, NJ, enlisted on 23 July 1942 in Raleigh, NC. Assigned to the 368th Fighter Squadron on 25 March 1945 he flew two combat missions with the 359th Fighter Group before completing his tour of duty.

On 3 April 1945 Levitt was part of a friendly fire incident where yellow flight engaged and fired upon P-51s of the 3rd Scouting Force, after mistaking them for enemy aircraft.
