The remains of 1st Lt John H. Liekhus, pilot of B-17G, “Bomber Dear”, tail # 42-97234, have been positively identified after being removed from the crash site of the Bomber Dear, near Barby, Germany.

Liekhus will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC.

Correspondence with Michael Cushing:
'My name is Michael Cushing, MD. I would like to inform you that the remains of 1st Lt John H. Liekhus, serial # 0-761138, pilot of the B-17G, “Bomber Dear”, tail # 42-97234, have been positively identified after being removed from the crash site of the Bomber Dear, near Barby, Germany. Four other crewmen who were aboard when the plane crashed were also found, only two other men were identified. This has all come about over the past year. My family is in touch with the US government agency handling this matter. At present, we are told that the remains of these five men will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC at a yet to be determined date.'
