James Patrick Scott Jr
MilitaryShot down 17 August 1943 in B-17 42-30080 'High Life. ' Crashed in Switzerland. Interned.
Jim later recalled in detail his experiences in Switzerland. After interrogation and processing they were taken to a hotel in a small village where they were joined the following day by crews from the 390th and 93rd Bomb Groups. 'We felt like monkeys in a zoo as hundreds of local citizens paraded by on weekends to see those American fliers'. They were soon contacted by representatives from the American Military attache in Bern and advised of the regulations concerning their internment. That November they were moved to another village in the Bernese Mountains where there was snow all year round. Their numbers were constantly increasing but life was bearable with Swiss army rations, local sports and educational opportunities. Jim was released after aboit 15 months in the company of some British soldiers and - as soon as they reached France - he reported to the US forces.
