Shot down 30 December 1942 in B-17F 42-2975 while serving as Tail Gunner. He is believed to have baled out of the stricken aircraft over the sea and was drowned. The aircraft crashed into the sea off the Ile d'Ouessant, France. Killed in Action (KIA).
