James Schierbrock served as a Co-pilot with the 448th Bomb Group.



He was Wounded in Action 2 July 1944 soon after take-off on a mission to Fiefs, France.

The pilot Billie Blanton in B-24 #42-109793 tried to control aircraft when propeller #4 flew off taking out the 3rd engine. The crew were advised by the tower to abandon the aircraft and all of the crew bailed out. Schierbrock bailed out but suffered a broken back upon landing. The aircraft crashed 3 miles north of Boreham, England.



The rest of the crew returned to service. Schierbrock was sent for medical treatment to the 121st Station Hospital at Braintree but died from his injuries on 7 July 1944. He is buried in Cambridge American Cemetery.
