First Lieutenant James E. Whitaker of the 303rd Bomb Group, examines a Cletrac. Printed caption on reverse: 'Examining a tractor - and there's plenty of English mud for it to plough through - is 1st Lt. James E. Whitaker, of 218 Pleasant St., Oak Park, Ill. His message to his wife and child is "Working hard, hoping to return soon." Lt. Whitaker aged 31 was Traffic Manager for the Hurley Machine Co., Cicero, Ill. He was educated at Oak Park - River Forest Township, Ill.' On reverse: Current Affairs Ltd, US Army Press Censor ETO and US Army General Section Press & Censorship Bureau [Stamps].

17 October 1943 accident upon landing at Filton when a tire blew and B-17 #42-5081 'Luscious Lady' swung off the runway into soft ground. All crew returned.
