"Iowans of the Mighty Eighth", Chapter 22 "Biographies", by Charles D Taylor.

Object Number - UPL 32873 - Jack G. Perrin, Tail Gunner, 390th Bomb Group.

Crew Number 3. Jack was at Iowa State Teacher's College when the Japanese hit Pearl Harbour and he immediately entered military service. He then worked for two years as a file clerk until there was a call for more gunners. After training he joined his crew and they were deployed to England in January 1945. He was to fly on 22 combat missions; on the very first - to hit the marshalling yards at Chemnitz - they lost an engine and dropped out of formation. Luckily they encountered no German fighters and managed to land on a temporary airstrip in Belgium. After his discharge in September 1945 he started up a mink ranch for the luxury fur trade which eventually became one of the largest in the USA.
