MilitaryCalled up to active service in February 1943. Flew 14 bombing missions. Shot down 30 November 1944 in B-17 #448109. POW. Took heavy flak over target near Leipzig and lost power. Reached area near Bebra where hills were higher than plane and pilot called for crew to bail out. Along with the rest of the surviving crew, was taken prisoner, interrogated, and transported to Stalag Luft 1, where he was held until evacuated in May 1945. At the time of his passing, he had been married for 60 years to his wife Miriam, with whom he had 2 children, 4 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
