Description

This was a weather recconnaissance sortie over the English Channel by B-17F 42-30131 assigned to Headquarters Squadron of 1st Combat Crew Replacement Center located at Bovington, UK. The aircraft actually took off from RAF Brawdy, Pembrokeshire because the aircraft picked up an RAF Meteorological Observer, Sgt. John Edward Bartle Pye. The aircraft was never heard from after take off and was presumed lost in the sea. 7KOM + 1RAF. Ref. MACR 2250.
