Richard Wehmeyer at A-70 in Laon, France, March 19, 1945. On a mission to Weyhers, Wehmeyer's plane lost two engines, forcing him to make an emergency landing at a medium bomber base on the continent. All excess equipment including ball turret gun was stripped to reduce weight and maintain altitude. He and the crew flew another mission two days later.
