King George VI is shown part of a B-17 Flying Fortress 306th Bomb Group that was damaged by flak during a Royal visit to Thurleigh. Handwritten caption on reverse: '306[BG].' Printed caption on reverse: 'King Visits American Air Force For The First Time. Censor No. 232601. 14.11.42. The King visited recently there aerodromes "somewhere in England" which have been taken over by the Bomber Command of the American Air Force. This is the first time the King has inspected the U.S. Air Force since they have been in this country. The King saw bombers being prepared for raids, and planes damaged during raids on France by flak.
