An airman of the 91st Bomb Group holds up finger 'bull horns' behind the head of his fellow airman. Image by Lieutenant Colonel Paul Chryst, 91st Bomb Group. Twenty-four year old 1st Lt Paul Chryst from Pottstown, Pennsylvania is shown in the foreground of the image, wearing his Class A uniform and taken in the second half of 1944 whilst assigned to the 91st Bomb Group, 401st Bomb Squadron. You will note that he is wearing his Bombardiers Wings on the left breast of his tunic and the Presidential Unit Citation medal (award) on his right. The 91st Bomb Group was awarded this Unit Citation, which permitted the men within the 'Group' to wear this blue ribbon on their Class A uniform. The person in the background is unknown but most probably a fellow crew member.

I first met Paul Chryst in May 1992 and visited with him on many occasions both in the US and in England at our respective homes. We spent many hours over the years discussing his participation in the air war over Germany and as such, I gained much knowledge about him and his combat crew whilst stationed in England in 1944. Paul died in his native Pennsylvania at the grand age of 94 in the Summer of 2014 - A life well lived and a credit to his wartime unit - The 91st Bomb Group, of which he was so amazingly proud to have served in.
