I put this together for a T-Shirt I hade made honoring my Uncle Pete's life. I thought it convenient to relate the guys in the photo to their names, ranks and what happened to them in the crash.

In a historical irony, Jimmy Ruzicka the Co-Pilot was also from Oak Park, Illinois. I have primary source newspaper articles from the summer of 1944 in the Oak Leaves - the Village of Oak Park's local newspaper. Igoe and Ruzicka both get written up in the paper. I do not know if Pete & Jim knew each other growing up but I am sure they hit it off in fine fashion as soon as they realized the connection.

Note the hand-written notation at bottom of photo - E.P. Kaspshak 163-27. Kaspshak was the pilot but his middle initial is "F". Perhaps an error or maybe a relative's name? Does anyone know what the 163-27 means?

I will be posting these articles and more in the weeks and months ahead.
