B-24D - #41-24301 'Lady Be Good' Crashed in the Libyian desert, 1943. All crewmen bailed out over the desert after being unable to find Benina Air Base at Benghazi on the Libyan coast in the dark after a late bombing mission to Naples Harbor. The bombardier, Lt. Robert F. Toner was killed after bailing out because his chute did not deploy fully. The rest of the crew died in the Libyan desert trying to walk out of the area. All crewmen KIA, 1943
