This is a letter written to my Grandma Mamie Igoe, dated November 15 1944. The sender is Staff Sgt. Robert D Fox. Fox was seriously wounded in the crash but he, along with the 3 other wounded Spare Parts survivors, were quickly rescued and sent to a hospital in England to recuperate. Evidently, he was cleared to travel back home to Santa Ana California some time in the Fall of 1944. A family treasure because we know now that Uncle Pete died in the crash. Not from the AA rounds that hit his bird somewhere near Caen, France. You might need to enlarge it to read it better. Fox's words are poignant, haunting and frankly, get me all emotional. His closing sentences clearly tell me that he was still in shock over what happened and he seems to still be in considerable pain.
