French civillians inspect the wreckage of a B-24 Liberator of the 492nd Bomb Group. Image via J Cortada. Handwritten caption on reverse: '42-50386 crashed at Le Petit Marais, Autruy Sur Juine (Loiret) France in the night of 4-5 July 1944.' There is no visible evidence that this aircraft is 42-50386 and that a correspondent (M. Jean-Marc Lejeune of Lagny-le-Sec) does not recognise this as the topology of the area. According to http://www.harringtonmuseum.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Carpetbagger-planes.pdf 42-50386 "Crashed 5.7.44 at Lagny - le-Sec (Oise) in France after being shot down by a ME 110 approx 35 miles south of Paris on Operation Peter".
